jackson

jessamy's cat had been missing for four days until this morning when we got a call from maxine(one of her old friends) calling to say happy birthday. then she mentioned that she was at her parents place and that jackson had returned. we were really excited to here this, so we rushed on down there.

he was curled up on the couch in the front and we were relieved to finally see him again. then maxine informed us he had a big cut with maggots crawling around in it. sick. his face was all puffy and swollen and his eyes looked like they had flaps of skin cut on them.

so we got him in a basket and towel and into a cab. then the driver told me they had to request a special cab and he couldn't handle us in a very rude and condescending way. so we had to wait for another cab. when it showed up we were whisked away to the animal hospital. jackson was bummed to be in the car but mainly just peered around and didn't make a sound.

we get there and the nurse(what do you call people who work at the animal hospital and aren't the actually vet?) asks me to carry him to the back room. it was sad back there but i knew they were helping animals. i saw a tiny dog getting shaved with a little hood on(which was one of the funniest things ever) and a big dog getting x-rays. i said goodbye to jackson with a pat on the head as he stumbled around inside the basket.

the vet said it was the worst abscess he had ever seen and that jackson probably got hurt the first day he was out of the house. he said it could have been anything from a bad fight to a car hitting him. they weren't sure if they could save him or not, but that the doctor who would be performing the surgery on his tail really liked to do that kind of thing and was really good at it. so we're optimistic. there could be any number of other things wrong with his insides so we'll hope he just has those surface wounds and will be home in 1-3 days. tail or not.

the happy thing is that we know where he is and that he is being taken care of.
